Many of the pieces written for Kronos have been recorded, performed by other groups, used in dance, theater, and film projects, and heard in countless forms of media. It would not be possible to commission work without Kronos\u2019 adventurous supporters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-0dde6af elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"0dde6af\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5676fb3\" data-id=\"5676fb3\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-bc1193c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"bc1193c\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-7d66ad2\" data-id=\"7d66ad2\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-665d5c9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"665d5c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">KRONOS Five Decades Commissions<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a62ddb9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a62ddb9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>During the 2023-2024 season, Kronos will unveil ten anniversary commissions from a diverse and exciting group of composers.<\/p><p><strong>Sahba Aminikia<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<i>Chahar Fasl<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Four Seasons<\/i>) examines the transformation of Iran\u2019s Lake Urmia, one of the largest salt lakes in the world, with a nod to Vivaldi\u2019s\u00a0<i>Four Seasons<\/i>.\u00a0<strong>Peni Candra Rini<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<i>Segara Gunung (Ocean-Mountain)<\/i>\u00a0responds to her native Indonesia\u2019s vulnerability to volcanic and seismic activity, as well as rising ocean levels.\u00a0<strong>Gabriella Smith<\/strong>\u2019s work calls on listeners to make climate action a joyful and integral part of their lives.<\/p><p>Several works are inspired by the composers\u2019 own cultural traditions.\u00a0<strong>inti figgis-vizueta<\/strong>\u2019s piece draws on her dedicated research into Pre-Columbian Andean traditions, including the Andean whistling jar.\u00a0<strong>Mazz Swift<\/strong>\u2019s suite is built on American slave songs and spirituals, with improvisational elements.\u00a0For\u00a0<strong>V\u00e2n-\u00c1nh V\u00f5<\/strong>\u2019s piece, she is working with an instrument builder in her native Vietnam to develop a communal instrument, sustainably constructed from coconut trees, for Kronos to perform.<\/p><p><strong>Michael Gordon<\/strong>\u2019s <i>gfedcba<\/i>\u00a0comprises several short movements and interludes inspired by the scherzos of Haydn, father of the string quartet.\u00a0<strong>Mary Kouyoumdjian<\/strong>\u2019s piece explores both the personal and the universal in a celebration of life and family.\u00a0<strong>Trey Spruance<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<i>Digenes Akritas<\/i>\u00a0will incorporate pre-recorded and manipulated Kronos sounds in an examination of otherness. Composed by <b>Michael Abels<\/b> with text by <b>Nikky Finney<\/b>, the work explores race relations, social justice, and civil rights in 21st-century America. Performances will feature the Kronos Quartet, Nikky Finney, and a chorus directed by <b>Val\u00e9rie Sainte-Agathe<\/b>. Funded in part by a <b>Hewlett Foundation 50 Arts Commission<\/b> and the <b>MAP Fund<\/b>, <i>At War with Ourselves<\/i> was commissioned by the Kronos Performing Arts Association in partnership with ASU Gammage at Arizona State University, Hancher Auditorium \u2013 The University of Iowa, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts \/ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, SFJAZZ, Texas Performing Arts at UT Austin, the University of South Carolina, and Andrea A. Partially debuted in June 2019 during the fifth annual <b>Kronos Festival<\/b> at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco, the program is a multi-artist exploration of Pete Seeger\u2019s musical legacy to celebrate the centennial of his birth. Commissioned by the <b>FreshGrass Foundation<\/b> through <b>The FreshGrass Composition Commission<\/b>, the final program featured arrangements of 13 songs written by or popularized by Seeger or his band the Weavers, as well as a new work entitled \u201cStoryteller\u201d by <b>Jacob Garchik<\/b> (who also arranged many of the songs) that features archival recordings held by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Collaborators on this project have included <b>Sam Amidon<\/b>, <b>Maria Arnal<\/b>, <b>Brian Carpenter<\/b>, <b>Lee Knight<\/b>, <b>Meklit<\/b>, <b>Aoife O\u2019Donovan<\/b>, and the <b>San Francisco
